A Masvingo man allegedly bludgeoned his 90-year-old uncle to death with an iron bar in a brutal and intentional attack.
Police records indicate that the deceased was hit several times in and on the head.
Masvingo Police deputy spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Patinyu Masauso confirmed the tragic incident saying police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.
“On 14 April 2025, Tongofa Dangemare was sleeping on his bed, when the accused, Benjamin Chirume (age not given) entered his room and accused his uncle of bewitching him.
“In a fit of rage he struck the defenseless man, with an iron bar several times on the head,” said Assistant Inspector Masauso.

He said the deceased’s grand son who was sleeping in the next room reacted to yells of help.
“Chirume’s son aged 22 dashed into the room and rescued his grandfather from the attack.
“Chirume is said to have fled from the scene.
“The following morning, Dangemare was taken to Mashoko Mission Hospital. Health officials indicated that he had sustained multiple head injuries.
“Unfortunately, on 17 April 2025, the elderly man succumbed to the injuries,” said Assistant Inspector Masauso.
He said a manhunt has since been launched and urged members of the public to report to the nearest police station with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
