A city businessman was left counting losses after thieves broke into his shop and stole USD 12,000 in cash from a secure safe.
According to Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the 52-year-old shop owner, whose premises are located in the city centre, left his store locked and secured on the evening of June 4, 2025, at around 5 PM. Security systems, including CCTV surveillance, were reportedly operational at the time of his departure.
However, around 11 PM, the businessman noticed on his phone that the surveillance cameras had stopped functioning. Concerned, he returned to the shop the following morning at approximately 6 AM.
“Upon arrival, he found all doors and windows still locked, which initially raised no alarms,” said Inspector Msebele. “But upon further inspection, he discovered that intruders had gained entry through the ceiling.”
The suspects reportedly accessed the office area, opened a small safe, and made off with an estimated USD 12,000 in cash.
Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
