Zimbabwe T20I captain Sikandar Raza has lodged a formal complaint with the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association (HMCA), alleging racist abuse during a recent Vigne Cup fixture.
The incident reportedly took place as Raza was leaving the field while playing for his club team. Sources indicate the alleged remarks came from Rainbow Cricket Club head coach, Blessing Mafuwa.
Several individuals present at the match have reportedly supported Raza’s claims, strengthening the case against the accused coach. Widely respected as a senior figure in Zimbabwean cricket, Raza has urged authorities to take decisive action, emphasizing that racism has no place in the sport—or in the country at large.
“This isn’t just about me. This is about protecting the integrity of the game,” Raza is believed to have said, according to those close to the situation.
The HMCA has acknowledged receiving Raza’s report and has launched an official inquiry. As part of the investigation, they are interviewing players, match officials, and spectators to establish the facts surrounding the alleged abuse.
The case has sparked widespread discussion in Zimbabwean cricket circles, raising critical concerns about racism, sportsmanship, and institutional accountability within the domestic cricket structure.
