Masvingo –Funds amounting to over 12 million dollars have been donated to the Masvingo Provincial Covid -19 Taskforce.
Tongaat Hullet made a donation of $12 million, Byword motors donated $100 000 and Bikita Minerals donated $50 000, Rodgers Irimayi, the Provincial Information Officer said.
The City Council had two ventilators it had secured through a donation from Germany but the challenge was that they work with oxygen cylinders. Modification of these cylinders was underway.
“Ventilator connectors have since been sourced using part of the donation from Byword,” he said.
Irimayi said that more companies in the province are eager to assist.
“More companies are willing to assist in the fight against the Covid -19 pandemic.”
$26 000 has been used to purchase ventilator connectors.
“$26 000 has already been used to purchase the much needed connectors for the two ventilators at the Rujeko Isolation centre,” he said.
For transparency, the taskforce has skilled personnel in finance management.
“For transparency purposes, the taskforce has skilled personnel in finance management that has been drawn from accounts sections from Local Government, Health and Child care, Masvingo City Council as well as from Tongaat Hullets to ensure funds are well distributed and well accounted for,” said Irimayi.
The Masvingo Taskforce in the fight against COVID -19 is using the hash tag #Covid -19 MasvingoInfo.
The Masvingo province taskforce led by minister of state, Ezra Chadzamira will be visiting the different districts in the province to raise Covid 19 awareness.
