Information Ministry Secretary, Nick Mangwans has expressed concern over Chitungwiza’s poor response to the national Covid-19 vaccination program.
The low turn out of people recorded in Chitungwiza left Mangwana seeking reasons why residents have decided to ignore the Covid-19 inoculation exercise.
He also questioned if the low figures recorded are induced by the majority of Chitungwiza’s population which already works in Harare, asking if they are getting vaccinated at their work places.
“Chitungwiza is registering 26000 people as vaccinated first dose and 13000 only as vaccinated second dose.
“These are very low figures. Are Chitungwiza residents being vaccinated in Harare when at work or there is actually a poor response there? I wonder.”
The permanent secretary of information also accompanied his tweet with a chart showing statistics of the ongoing vaccination program which is taking place in all the country’s 10 provinces.
As a result, the chart revealed that at the moment Chitungwiza has emerged as the lowest among other provinces to have experienced a very low turn out in terms of the number of people who have received either first or second doses.
A total of 26 098 first doses and 13 887 second doses have been recorded in Chitungwiza so far.
Meanwhile, other provinces which recorded low figures are Matebeleland South, Matebeleland North, Mashonaland Central and Masvingo province.
According to the chart, only Harare, Bulawayo, Midlands, Manicaland and Mashonaland East provinces have recorded significant figures.
