Masvingo – Government is working on creating centres to test COVID 19 specimen in the province and different districts.
This was revealed by Minister of State for Masvingo provincial affairs, Ezra Chadzamira at a press briefing held yesterday.
Samples from Masvingo are being transferred to the National Microbiology Laboratory in Harare for testing.
“We have been sending all specimens to our central laboratory in Harare. Plans to decentralize the testing to Masvingo provincial hospitals are underway. As we stand guided by the national task force and our central government, more testing kits will be distributed to our seven districts where isolation centres have been already been established to ample our communities to be tested for COVID -19,” he said.
A provincial task force has been established to make sure that people adhere to the 21 day lock down.
“I have set a provincial taskforce which has sub committees to ensure that our province plays its significant role in addressing the emergency.
The sub committees include the Lock down committee to ensure that residents comply with the COVID -19 statutory instrument and all the government statements. Another is the Resource mobilisation committee whose duty is to mobilize the necessary resources for our hospitals and total eradication of the pandemic.
“Information and publicity committee whose duty is to continue raising awareness about Corona Virus and this committee is the life line as it acts against fake news being posted on social media platforms. The Human Resources committee which is meant to ensure that essential service centres both in the public and private sector are marked by the essential staff.
Finally, the Emergency and Reaction committee which will provide the necessary medical support and tracking of all suspected cases.”
According to Chadzamira there are no COVID -19 confirmed cases in Masvingo.
