Government has applauded churches for complementing it’s efforts in mitigating the spread of Covid-19 by donating to the less privileged and the elderly.

This was said by Mashonaland West Provincial Director, Douglas Chiwiro while addressing at an event where Johanne 5th of Africa church was donating food items to over 200 people.

He was representing the Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution.

“Our government is very happy to work hand-in-hand with churches such as Johanne the 5th of Africa, in complimenting our efforts in the fight against Covid-19 and also extending a helping hand to the less privileged and the elderly.

“On our own we can never reach the expectation of the people but with aid from civic organizations and a couple of people who are concerned about the welfare of others we can reach some where hence we appreciate all those who add value to the lives of others,” he said.

Chiwiro in his speech said government will continue to work with the church in the fight against Covid-19.

She said the Covid-19 induced lockdown has left many households vulnerable hence it was important for citizens to have food on the table.

“The lockdown left many households vulnerable for some depended on hand to mouth, for some their companies were closed hence resulting in them failing to put food on the table.

The churches efforts, she said, augers well with Her Excellency Amai Mnangagwa’s role of providing the elderly and the less privileged with food hampers and sanitisers.

“So we are very grateful indeed that today the church led by Madzibaba Andby has come to help the people in Mashonaland West through donating food stuffs following the recent visit by Amai Mnangagwa in the entire province to provide food stuffs to elderly” she said.

Minister Mliswa also warned some churches that were clandestinely congregating at night to adhere to the lockdown regulations.

Prophet (Madzibaba) Andby Makururu  thanked the government through the office of Minister Mliswa for allowing his church to donate to his church members in the province.

He pleaded with the apostles to take heed of the government’s call of adherence and practicing social distancing during this period of lockdown.

Prophet Makururu who also has a school fees initiative, said he wishes to scale up the social safety net and food security programmes and take it to other provonces.

The Johanne 5th of Africa church donated basic food stuffs to its church members, the less privileged and the elderly in Chinhoyi following his successful gestures in Manicaland and Mashonaland East provinces.
