As hunger bites following the 21-day national shutdown, youths from across the political divide have called for transparency in the distribution of coronavirus donations.
There have been widespread reports of Members of parliament and councillors partisanly distributing food aid.
MDC Youth Assembly spokesperson, Stephen Chuma challenged legislators to fairly distribute aid.
In a statement, he said, “It is very imperative that beyond these farcical donations, citizens should have it in mind that these are the same MPs from a party that has been looting the national cake since 1980”.
Chuma singled out Gokwe Nembudziya Mp Justice Wadyedyena who recently made a donation in his constituency.
“Amongst the donating ZANU PF MPs, there is one from Gokwe-Nembudziya who recently bought the latest US 1 million Lamborghini top of the range vehicle. Ironically his name inJustice.”
The MDC youths also said
“If anything, the ZANU PF MPs donations are akin to that of a thief who steals all your inheritance only to come back with a coffin on your funeral!”
Zanu Pf youths in Chitungwiza ward 19 have also called for transparency in the distribution of aid accusing Chitungwiza deputy mayor and Ward 19 councillor Musa Makweza (MDC Alliance) of politicising government aid meant for the vulnerable.
Zimbabwe Old People’s Association co-ordinator Paddington Chaparadza claimed that some old people’s names were left out as potential beneficiaries because they were considered sympathetic to ZANU PF.
He said: “Programmes are introduced in a good way, but the implementation is not good. President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) spoke well about this, but those driving it are now politicising it. In this country, people in positions of authority favour those who support them. Seven people are written down at a single house and the elderly are few. There is no transparency.
Makweza however, dismissed the claims saying he invited all vulnerable people to come and register
