Masvingo – Residents have applauded the ongoing road rehabilitation program by the Masvingo City Council.
Residents who spoke to Bustop TV praised council for doing a great job as most of the roads were now in a terrible state.
Since the road rehabilitation program 80% of the roads have been rehabilitated.
The resealing of roads damaged during last rain season was long overdue said Thandiswa Dube from Ward 10.
“Our roads were now in bad shape; one could hardly drive through and this even led to accidents as vehicles will be trying to avoid pot holes. The resealing of the roads was long overdue, the heavy rains we witnessed also led massively to the destruction of the roads. At least now we can move and drive around safely, it is our hope that the resurfacing of the roads last longer and not witness more potholes,” she said.
Taonga Ruzivo from ward 1 also said the Council used their funds in a much better way.
“This time around the Council tried to use their funds in a much better and transparent manner. The roads were now bad and especially in our ward it was like we had been deserted yet the ward is the busiest one. There is real need to pay attention to roads as they also contribute to road accidents. Now they have to pay attention to the road that links the City to the Beit Bridge highway as it is the road that brings money go the City,” he said.
The City Council had allocated a budget of ZWL$132,706 504 and the disbursed amount so far is ZWL$77,850,954.69.
