A man from Rusape, Takudzwa Noel Mwashaenyi, faces legal consequences after posting unverified information on social media about a tender awarded by the Rusape Town Council.
Mwashaenyi has been summoned to appear before the Rusape Magistrates Court for allegedly spreading defamatory and false claims.
The posts, which gained significant attention, accused the council of awarding a tender to Hurntspine Investments PL without adhering to proper procedures.
Mwashaenyi went as far as claiming that the tender had been granted in a single day and suggested that the company was set to receive monetary payments from the council.

In response, Rusape Town Council, represented by Absolom and Shepherd Attorneys, challenged Mwashaenyi’s allegations by presenting the complete tender documents before the High Court under case HCMCT 70/25.
The council’s legal team demanded that Mwashaenyi provide evidence to back his claims.
Following a legal review, Honourable Justice Siziba J from Mutare ruled that Mwashaenyi must cease publishing false and harmful information related to the tender.
In addition to the civil case, Mwashaenyi now faces criminal charges under the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act [Chapter 9: 23], and he will be summoned to stand trial in the near future.
