Zanu-PF MP’s aides charged with murder

by Bustop TV News

Two aides of a Zanu PF Bulawayo Member of Parliament (MP) have been linked to the murder of an opposition supporter in the country’s second largest city.

Sources said aides of the ruling party’s Nketa lawmaker, Albert Mavunga (pictured), have been dragged to court over the death of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporter.

The deceased was set to be buried on Sunday in Masvingo, a close source said.

Mavunga confirmed the arrest of his aides over the tragic incident, but refused to comment further.

“I am sorry; I cannot comment further on this matter as the case is in court. Its in court and there’s nothing I can say until the finalisation of the case ” he said when contacted for comment.

Sources said the CCC supporter was involved in an altercation with the lawmaker’s aides last week before the tragic incident.

It is not clear what triggered the fallout between the CCC activist and Mavunga’s aides.

“What happened is that Mavunga’s aides had an altercation with the CCC supporter in Nketa over some unresolved issues,” a source close to the case said.

“They beat up the CCC activist and took him to a rehab centre for drug addicts run by the MP where they continued assaulting him until he became unconscious.”

Sources said Mavinga’s aides were driving the MP’s vehicle on the day.

“They later took him to Mpilo hospital after he failed to regain consciousness…he later succumbed to the injuries,” a source said.

“His right hand man, one Bheki, and his security guard were both arrested over the case and they are behind bars.”

“A medical report confirmed that the CCC was fatally assaulted.”

The two suspects are back in court this week.

Sources said there is an attempt not to link Mavunga to the case with some sources saying he instructed his aides to assault the CCC supporter.

Mavunga won the seat in a by-election in December last year following the recall of CCC legislator Obert Manduna by self-styled opposition party secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu.
