The Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) kicked off its two-day annual general meeting (AGM) today in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital.
The theme of the indaba is “Sustainable Mining: A Catalyst towards National Development.”
Mines and Mining Development Minister, Winstone Chitando, will be the guest speaker. ZMF president, Henrietta Rushwaya, expects representatives from all provinces to attend and share their experiences in the mining sector.
The ZMF is emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for environmental damage caused by mining activities, including deforestation, pollution, and loss of biodiversity. Collaboration is seen as key to ensuring mining benefits national development while protecting Zimbabwe’s natural resources.
This meeting comes as the government is urging miners, especially gold miners, to increase production to support the newly launched Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency, introduced in April 2024.
