Chimombe, Mpofu finally appear before ZACC

by Bustop TV News

Controversial businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu presented themselves to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday following a summon last week.

The two were summoned over the inflation of contracts worth over US$100 million awarded by the Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) and alleged misappropriation of ZWL1.6 billion after winning a tender to buy over 600,000 goats under the Presidential Goat Scheme.

They were supposed to be interrogated last week, however, they both claimed to be out of the country.

Speaking after the interview, their lawyer Tapson Dzvetero, said: “We presented our clients to ZACC, who indicated they will call us if needed. My clients are prepared to assist with any investigation. For now, we have been excused.”

The two are reportedly prepared to become state witnesses in the investigation into the ZEC contracts for election materials.

This decision follows their fallout with their partner, Wicknell Chivayo, who is alleged to have received millions of dollars from the tenders.

Chivayo, Mpofu and Chimombe, in collaboration with gold dealer Scott Sakupwanya of Better Brands, partnered with the South African company Ren Form CC to bid for ZEC tenders.

They subsequently inflated Ren Form invoices by adding millions of dollars, increasing the prices of goods supplied to ZEC.

Chivayo then went back to Ren Form, renegotiated the deal and removed Chimombe and Mpofu without them knowing leading to the leaking of incriminating documents and audios.
