The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has authorized vacation school for examination classes only, for a period of ten days.
In a statement on Wednesday, Permanent Secretary for Education, Moses Mhike, said holiday lessons will cost US$2 per lesson for Grade 7 pupils, US$5 for Form 4 students, and US$5 for Form 6 learners.
“Therefore, for the year 2024, authority is granted for schools to conduct vacation school during the August holidays for the examination classes of Grade 7, Form 4, and Upper Six.
“The holiday lessons will take place between 19 and 30 August, a period of ten working days only.
“Primary schools will charge US$2.00 per learning area per Grade 7 pupil, or its equivalent bank rate in Zimbabwe Gold currency. Secondary Schools will charge US$3.00 per learning area for Form 4 and US$5.00 per learning area for Upper Six, or its equivalent bank rate in Zimbabwe Gold currency.
“All boarders will pay an extra US$4.00 per day for their upkeep during the vacation school period,” Mhike said.
Meanwhile, parents and guardians have been urged to request receipts at the point of payment for audit purposes.
Previously, the government banned April vacation school for examination classes, stating that students needed to rest.
