Government has increased public hospitals’ fees with effect from the 1st of January.
Health Care ministry said the upwards review of health service charges was necessitated by inflation, but they had considered the ordinary citizens plight as well.
In a letter dated 30 December addressed to hospital provincial medical directors and chief executive officers, Health Ministry permanent secretary, Agnes Mahomva said consultation, ambulance fees, mortuary charges, general ward, private, psychiatric unit, maternity and private ward new charges were to be implemented with immediate effect.
“The ministry has approved new hospital fees, with effect from the 1st of January 2020. Please note that the decision has been reached after taking into account the plight of the general populace, as well as the inflationary environment we are currently in.”
