Manyi Dismisses Speculation of Leaving MK Party After Losing Chief Whip Role

by Bustop TV News

Mzwanele Manyi has refuted claims that he intends to part ways with the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party following his removal from the role of Chief Whip in Parliament.

“I’m not going anywhere,” he asserted in a recent statement, confirming his ongoing dedication to the party and his responsibilities as a Member of Parliament.

This response came shortly after National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza announced that Colleen Makhubele, former Johannesburg council speaker, would replace Manyi as chief whip, effective May 27.

Manyi’s ousting—after less than a year in the position has triggered speculation about internal friction within the MK Party. Insider sources hint at a mix of dissatisfaction with his leadership approach and broader party tensions.

Earlier this year, the Mail & Guardian reported that some colleagues viewed him as “arrogant” and unfit for the role, citing his inability to foster caucus unity or effectively challenge figures like the EFF’s Julius Malema. Reports also surfaced of a heated confrontation between Manyi and deputy party president John Hlophe, adding to the perception of instability.

Despite these controversies, Manyi remains steadfast in his support for the MK Party, using his public statement to shut down talk of a possible departure. He appears determined to remain active in the party’s parliamentary activities.

With Manyi now the second chief whip to be replaced since August 2024, all eyes are on Makhubele to see whether her leadership can bring cohesion to a party still grappling with internal divisions.
