The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has announced significant advancements in various projects aimed at enhancing the country’s education sector.
Minister Torerayi Moyo (pictured) presented a report during a Cabinet Briefing, highlighting the registration of 35 new schools and infrastructure upgrades at several existing schools.
A communique issued by the Ministry of Information and Publicity and Broadcasting Services detailed some of the specific projects.
New schools includes- Ruvimbo Primary in Makonde District, Mariga Primary in Mbire District, BSPZ Offices in Mazowe District, Shabani Primary in Zvishavane District, Progress 2 College in Gweru District, Southerton and Lochnivar Primary schools in HighGlen District, Houghton Park Primary in Mbare/Hatfield District, Tashinga Primary, Support Unit Secondary in Epworth/Tafara District, and Belvedere Primary in Warren Park/Mabelreign District of Harare.
The Ministry also indicated another development on the construction of a girls’ hostel at Kondo High School in Guruve District.
“In order to increase the uptake of science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects, 10 science laboratories were constructed, equipped and re-tooled across the country.
“Regarding the construction of sustainable and affordable boarding facilities, the construction of a girls hostel to house 150 learners at Kondo High School in Guruve District, Mashonaland Central Province is at 35% of completion,” reads an extract from the communique.
Meanwhile, Cabinet also received a report on the Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy, Urban Cash Transfer Programme, and Movement of Grain, presented by Minister July Moyo.
The report indicated that “out of the targeted 6 140 924 beneficiaries, 5 479 704.51 received food assistance in the first three months, being May to July 2024 food distributions blitz and this translated to 89.2%.
“The Grain Movement Command Centre has worked tirelessly to ensure that food insecure people received the requisite assistance.”
Moyo announced that “The nation is informed that Cabinet advises that Government is now in the 2nd Cycle of the Blitz Grain distribution where a total of 6 215 775 beneficiaries are set to be received assistance from 6th August, 2024 to 31 October 2024.”
