Simuka Comedy will this Friday host a comedy show dubbed ‘Comedy 19 Third Wave’ featuring various acts based around the world.
Speaking to Bustop TV, Simuka Communications Officer, Kadem the Comic, said they had cancelled scheduled for June during the lockdown but have since started hosting online shows.
“After the recent ban on events and gatherings end of June, we had to cancel all our lined-up gigs including our 10 year anniversary celebration show which was set to happen on the 26th of June at Reps Theatre Main Stage. We were therefore left with no option but to resort to online live shows to avoid losing both our audience and the touch of live comedy. We kick started our online comedy shows in the beginning of July and these are hosted every Friday on the Simuka Comedy Facebook and Youtube platforms. An added advantage of online comedy shows is that unlike physical shows, they can feature comedians from various parts of the world thanks to digital technology.”
Kadem gave the profile of the comedians who will perform on the Comedy-19 Third Wave show.
“Our next show happens this Friday 30th of July 2021 and is dubbed “Comedy-19 Third Wave” which is intended to stress-relief and bring laughter to our audiences through such a tough time brought by the Covid-19 3rd Wave. The show features Cotilda Inapo (Uganda), founder of the Ugandan all female comedy platform “Queens of Comedy Uganda,” ; Chingliz (Zambia), founder and CEO of Night of Laughter Comedy in Zambia; Bexta (SA), a Botswana born, Zimbabwean raised and South African matured comedian who has featured on South African TV shows on eTV and SABC1; Boldwin Bals (Botswana), a regular comedian and host of The Fresh Comedy Series in Botswana; Gift Christopher Nyamuteya (UK), UK based Zimbabwean comedian and Radio 54 African Panorama DJ and Host forn Khaya Vibes Show aka DJ Ghetto Swag; Louis the Prince of Comedy (Netherlands) who is the show’s host and Netherlands based Zimbabwean comedian. Louis is also Simuka Comedy’s Marketing Manager.”
The Simuka Communications officer also said that comedians who have been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic are hungry to perform.
“Roughly with over one and half years without decent physical live stand-up comedy activity across the globe, comedians are hungry to perform and we saw this as an opportunity to bring comedians together through online shows and provide a platform where they can still be relevant and also keep in touch with their fans and audiences We anticipate for a good comedy hangout as comedians will be bringing laughter in the comfort of their homes to people in the comfort of their homes. Simuka Comedy will be bringing these online comedy shows every Friday until live events and venues are opened for the public gatherings.”
In July, Simuka has hosted online shows including the Tenth year Anniversary Celebration show, Toddlers Comedy show (a show which featured new comedians who are still upcoming), International Ketchup, which featured foreign and locally based comedians catching up on current issues happening around the world.
