Masvingo – Solidar Med yesterday donated an oxygen concentrator and drug trolley to the Rujeko Isolation Clinic following an increase in Covid-19 confirmed cases in the province.
The donations were handed over to Masvingo City Mayor, Collin Maboke.
In an interview with Dr Alvern Mutengerere from Solidar Med said they decided to donate to the isolation centre after noticing that it needed assistance.
“We once visited the isolation centre and we realised that there is still equipment needed at the centre as they cannot afford to place every patient that comes to the isolation centre be on oxygen. So we realised that if they have the oxygen concentrator and concentrate it on their own it will save them from buying oxygen.
“Oxygen is one of the important things when it comes to treating Covid -19 patients, so we then decided to donate the oxygen concentrator. We also realised that there was no proper storage for medication whilst the health care workers were attending to patients hence we donated a drug trolley,” he said.
Maboke expressed his gratitude to Solidar Med.
“As Masvingo Council we are happy, we were not expecting to receive such a donation especially when the City is being affected by Covid -19. The donations will not only assist not only residents in Masvingo but also patients from other districts in the province. This will help in the fight against the Covid -19 pandemic in the province. We hope to keep it properly and those with qualifications will operate the machinery. We thank Solidar Med for the donations and will continue working with them,” he said.
Last year Solidar Med donated to Masvingo provincial hospital and helped in the renovation of the Masvingo general hospital Intensive Care Unit. The organisation last year spent more than $50 00 on hospitals in Bikita, Masvingo, Zaka and Chiredzi.
