The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is set to establish offices in all regions in the country as it intensifies it’s fight against graft.
This was revealed by ZACC commissioner, Gabriel Chaibva at a strategy workshop held at Flamboyant hotel in Masvingo, Monday.
Chaibva said it was the anti graft body’s intention to decentralize into the country’s six regions before this year ended.
This will help educate more citizens about corruption and possibly increase the number of whistleblowers.
“We as ZACC intend to decentralize to six regions by the end of this year. This comes as part of our outreach program by bringing our offices closer to the people and community at large for reportage.
“Our ultimate objective is to make sure that in every region we have full complimentary unit of the ZACC offices capable of doing anything else that we can do at head office.”
He added that if funds are available they would set up more offices in districts.
“Ultimately we then intend to decentralize to districts but this is a question of resources, but this is the broader objective of ZACC,” he said.
At a stakeholders consultative meeting last year, Chief Matubede Mudavanhu Mugabe urged ZACC to decentralize as it would help a lot of people understand the issue of corruption.
“The problem is that we do not know about you, not everyone does know about you because you are not familiarizing yourself with all the people especially those in communities. Come and visit all areas especially those in the non reachable areas because corruption is everywhere it does not target certain individuals.
Identify yourselves and decentralize, like instance the health sector has health village workers who work within different communities serving the people and the same should be done for ZACC. All provinces should have offices where people can report too,” he said.
