The Zimbabwe Youth Action Platform (ZYAP) is calling for the death penalty for those responsible for the recent presidential helicopter crash, which they believe was a deliberate attempt on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s life.
The president was not on board when the helicopter crashed during takeoff at Masvingo Airport, and none of the crew members were seriously injured.
Addressing journalists recently in Harare, Chairman Tonderai Chidawa condemned the incident, labeling it a treasonous attack, and demanded an independent inquiry to uncover the truth behind the crash.
“We demand the death penalty for those who shall be found complicit in this heinous attack. We stand solidly behind the PRESIDENT and support His Vision 2030, and no one shall stop this.
“We further demand that the highest penalty of our land be given to the culprits because they shall be known,” he said.
The incident occurred after President Mnangagwa attended a groundbreaking ceremony and Munhumutapa Day celebrations in Masvingo, accompanied by top government officials.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) is currently investigating the crash, which was attributed to a technical fault.
Chidawa hinted at internal party sabotage, saying, “There are bad people within our own party capable of such nefarious acts, but we must await the outcome of the investigation before taking further action.”
