Speaking in Bulawayo at the commissioning of 76 new ZUPCO buses yesterday (Friday), President Mnangagwawarned rural and urban councils against corruption.
The clarion call to shun corruption has been anthemized with the President saying
” let me warn all rural and urban councils to shun all forms of corruption…”
The stern warning came on the backdrop of a plethora of corrupt allegations levelled against a number of local authorities in the country
President Mnangagwa earlier this year re-established Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission led by Mrs Loice Matanda Moyo inorder to curb corruption in the country.
However, the commission has faced heavy critism for failing to stamp out corruption as it has been labelled a catch and release institution.
Analyst have condemned the lackadaisical approach taken by the government with Norton Legislater Mr Temba Mliswa arguing that ZACC needs arresting powers .
So far no high profile councils executives have been imprisoned, but impeccable sources say ZACC is already finishing filing corruption cases with Chitungwiza and Bulawayo topping the list of corrupt local authorities
