An alleged goat thief struck his village mate three times with an axe after a dispute over the ownership of the livestock.

After committing the heinous act, the suspected goat thief hanged himself.

Mashonaland Central spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the tragic incident, saying it happened on 3 June 2025 in Muzarabani.

“At around 1030 hours, Jestos Tsikire found one of his missing goats tied to a tree with a rope at Gamuchirai Mvundura’s homestead,” Inspector Mundembe.

He said Mvundura denied the theft charges, revealing that he bought the goat on 15 May 2025.

An altercation ensued between the duo, and Tsikira left for his homestead a kilometre away.

Inspector Mundembe said on the same date Tsikire arranged a kangaroo court to solve the goat dispute, but it yielded no results.

He said Tsikire resolved to report the matter to the police.

“After about 15 minutes, Mvundura left his homestead with an axe, saying he was going to look for cattle.

“He returned after a few minutes, and he borrowed and borrowed from his brother, and thereafter he left,” said Inspector Mundembe.

At around 1630 hours, Mvundura, who was no longer armed, met his brother and told them to look after his homestead.

Inspector Mundembe said on the same date at around 1700 hours a villager used the same road connecting Tsikire and Mvundura’s homestead.

“They found Tsikire lying unconscious and bleeding on the stomach. The villagers tried to render first aid; unfortunately, he died.

Inspector Mundembe said on the following day people going to Tsikire’s funeral saw Mvundura’s lifeless body dangling on a tree.
