Wanezi High School Faces Criticism Over Two Years Without Power or Water

by Bustop TV News

At Wanezi High School in Insiza District, Matabeleland South, staff members have raised serious concerns about the deteriorating living conditions at the school, citing two years without electricity and a lack of running water.

In a statement made on behalf of the disgruntled staff, workers have accused the school’s bursar, Mr. Moyo, of financial mismanagement and prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of both employees and students.

According to staff, the school’s power supply was disconnected by ZESA due to unpaid bills. However, instead of addressing the debt, Mr. Moyo allegedly installed a costly solar system that benefits only himself and a small group of administrative staff.

This has sparked frustration among employees and parents, especially since parents are paying high fees of USD $680 for their children’s education.

Despite the ongoing issues, the school is preparing to hold an extravagant farewell party on March 28, 2025, for its former headmistress, Ms. Kumalo, who staff claim left the school in disrepair. The event is set to proceed even though workers have not been paid for the month of March, and the school continues to lack basic utilities.

The situation at Wanezi High School has drawn strong criticism from staff and the wider community, who are calling for immediate action to address the crisis and hold the responsible parties accountable.
