67 year old woman throws juvenile into 13m deep well

Masvingo – In a case of attempted murder, a 67 year old lady from Chatsworth appeared before the court being accused of throwing down an 11 year old juvenile into a 13 metre deep unprotected well.

Unes Shangwa pleaded guilty to the charges when she appeared before Masvingo Provincial Magistrate Bishard Chineka on the 14th Of November 2020.

Shangwa was remanded in custody as her case was postponed to the 4th of December 2020.

The accused, Unes Shangwa and the complainant (name supplied) who is doing grade 4 resides in the same area in Chatsworth Masvingo.

Prosecutor Nixon Chamisa, who was representing told the court that on the 29th of August 2020, the juvenile was fetching water from an unprotected well at stand number 31 village 02, Norwood farm in Chatsworth belonging to Lawrence Muradza in the presence of a 3year old.

Shangwa the accused then approached the complainant at the well, stood behind her and upon discovering that complainant’s parent were not around, she threatened to kill the complainant and the complainant never sensed any danger and continued fetching water.

Shangwa then suddenly held the complainant by her hands, lifted her upwards and threw her down into the 13 metre deep protected well and fled away. However, the complainants’ cousin brother aged 8, suddenly arrived from the garden on the same date after he heard the screaming noise and he peeped through the 40 cent metre diameter well, positively identified the complainant half soaked in well water and rushed to the neighbor, Innocent Chinobva who immediately came and pulled the complainant out of the well, using a rope.

The complainant sustained serious back injuries and matter was reported at Chatsworth police on the 30th August 2020 and complainant was sent for medical examination at Gutu Mission Hospital.
