Cashier Arrested Over Failed Cash Theft Attempt

A plot to steal over USD 20,000 from the Kadoma Delta Beverages Depot turned sour after the cashier was caught on CCTV.

In a bid to cover her theft, she set the office on fire.

NPA said Evelyn Mkwananzi (38) was convicted for stealing USD 29,896.

Court records state that on 4 May 2023, Mkwananzi intentionally failed to handle beverage sales for banking.

“She stole the cash, then attempted to burn part of the money in a desperate bid to cover the tracks.

“She was captured on CCTV fleeing from the scene after starting the fire.

“A quick response by security saved USD 12,500, but USD 470 and a Zig 900 were partially burnt,” said NPA.

The courts sentenced her to 38 months’ imprisonment.

“10 months suspended for five years, 12 months suspended if she repays USD 29 860.

“16 months suspended on condition she performs 560 hours of community service.
