A Chirundu resident, Raymond Masunda, appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court on charges of unlawfully importing restricted goods.
The court ordered him to pay a fine of USD $200.00. Should he fail to pay, he will serve a four-month prison term.
According to reports, on 2 June 2025, around midday, detectives conducting patrols near the Chirundu Border Post received a tip-off that Masunda had brought beer into Zimbabwe illegally, bypassing official entry points.
Acting on the information, the officers visited his residence and carried out a search. During the operation, they discovered 204 boxes of 750 ml beer bottles believed to have been smuggled from Zambia.
Masunda was asked to present customs clearance documents to show that the goods had been processed through the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA). However, he was unable to produce the required paperwork.
As a result, he was taken into custody and later charged.
