Anglican church bishop, Erik Ruwona has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) for swindling over half a million US dollars from Agribank.
It is alleged that Ruwona together with his accomplices in 2016 acquired a loan worth USD700 000 for the construction of St Catherine Girls School in Rusape but later converted it for personal use.
They used the church’s land as collateral without notifying congregants.
In a tweet, ZACC said the Anglican Manicaland diocese head was facing corruption charges contrary to social media rumours that he was picked up for forcing prospective students to purchase bibles and hymn books.
“ZACC wants to set the record straight on the arrest of the Anglican Bishop Erik Ruwona: he and his accomplices took a loan from Agribank of USD700 000 in 2016 purportedly for the construction of St Catherine Girls School Rusape and converted the loan to personal use,” reads the tweet.
