CONTROVERSIAL businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu have told the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission they were not able to go for interviewing following summons which were made a few days ago.

The two are primary suspects in a murky US$40 million elections deal.

Chimombe and Mpofu through their lawyers wrote to the anti corruption commission claiming they were out of the country and will present themselves when they come back.

“We act for and on behalf of Messrs. Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe who have been made aware of press releases and  or advertisements in various media outlets, including print and electronic media, indicating your interest in interviewing them as part of an ongoing investigation.

“Our clients are currently out of the country and will not be able to attend any interviews until their return to Zimbabwe, however, they are willing to co-operate fully with the investigations and are available to attend any requested interviews upon their return.

“We kindly request that you notify us of any request you may have concerning this issue.

“In the meantime, kindly take note of our undertaking that we will ensure our clients’ availability

Please feel free to-contact us if you require any further information or clarification,” reads the letter written to ZACC Monday.

The two were summoned together with controversial businessman and ex convict Wicknell Chivayo who has also not yet presented himself for interviewing by ZACC.

Chivayo,  is at the center of the scandal, allegedly having taken the proceeds of the corrupt deal while sidelining Mpofu and Chimombe.

It is alleged Chivayo secured contracts worth up to US$40 million with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) in the lead-up to the August 2023 general elections.

These contracts included the provision of tents, electronic devices, biometric hardware and software, ink, and training, among other supplies.

Mpofu and Chimombe released damaging information on Chivayo after he allegedly duped them US$10 million.

The three went into a deal with a South African based company Ren Form CC last year to participate in Zimbabwe’s election tenders and Chivayo then went back and removed Chimombe and Mpofu from the deal without them knowing leading to the  leaking of incriminating documents and audios.
