Mercy Madenyika is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of her husband, Blessed Believe Juruvenge (30), who died while detained by police. Pregnant with their first child, she now faces an uncertain future alone.
Juruvenge, a resident of Damafalls, reportedly died after being assaulted by a police officer, Constable Prince Ndavambi, who has since gone into hiding. The couple ran a small tuckshop together and had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of their baby.
“I still can’t believe he’s gone,” said a visibly distraught Mercy. “He never even got the chance to meet our child. I don’t know how I’ll go on.”
His mother, Elipa Jimu, expressed her grief and desperation. “He was my only son. I never imagined I’d have to bury him. We have no money for a funeral, let alone for the baby.”
A neighbor, Taurayi Chiedziso, lamented the tragedy. “Whatever the issue was, it could have been resolved without violence. Now an innocent child will grow up without a father. It’s heartbreaking.”
The family is appealing for both justice and financial support as they navigate this painful loss.
