The court case involving Senator Jameson Timba and 77 Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) members, known as the Avondale 78, has been further remanded to July 24.
It has now been 25 days since the arrest and detention of Senator Timba and the Avondale 78 for allegedly holding an unauthorized meeting on 16 June 2024.
Gift Ostallos Siziba, former Deputy National Spokesperson for Citizen’s Coalition for Change, confirmed on X.
“Hon. Jameson Timba and Avondale 78 case has been adjourned until July 24th,” he said.
“Note that the court session commenced at 8:30am, earlier than the previously scheduled 11am.
“The regime is clearly rattled, as this case exposes their scandalous actions. The delay tactics won’t deter us from seeking justice! #FreeAvondale78,” he added.
Their prolonged detention has ignited widespread condemnation and has become a rallying point for human rights advocates.
Yesterday afternoon, human rights activists and CCC supporters gathered at Parliament Square in London to protest against the ongoing human rights abuses in Zimbabwe. The demonstration, under the banner #FreeAvondale78, aimed to highlight the plight of those detained by the Harare regime and to call for their immediate release.
The protest at Parliament Square saw a significant turnout, with participants holding placards and chanting slogans demanding justice and the release of the detainees. The demonstrators also called on the international community to exert pressure on the Zimbabwean government to uphold human rights and ensure fair legal proceedings.
The Zimbabwean government has yet to respond to the protests or the calls for the release of the detainees.
