ZIFA has intensified its search for a substantive warriors coach .
With December 31 fast approaching interim warriors coach Joey Antipas’ contract ends after guiding the warriors through a tumultuous and hectic 2019 schedule, which will see Zimbabwe participating in the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers as well as the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and the African Nations Championships tournament in Cameroon.
Many staunch Zimbabwe football lovers and supporters will agree that Antipas, did very well during his tenure .
However sources close to ZIFA are saying Serbian national Milutin Sredojevic populary known as “Michu” is emerging a favourate amongst the four contenders .
The source say Micho has an edge over others and also has a lot of experience thus placing the Serb most likely to land the job .
Micho 50 years old coached the Rwandan national team between 2011 to 2013 . Hw also once coached the Ugandan national soccer team for four years guiding them to the 2017 Afcon finals for the first time since 1978.
After the Afcon finals, he joined Orlando Pirates, but abruptly quit the club to join Egyption side Zamalek . While at Zamalek things did not go well for him as he was shown the exit door following a string of poor results.
The 50-year-old Serbian also took charge of Rwanda between 2011 and 2013.
Among the contenders is former Macedonian gaffer Janevski Cedomir .
Janevski has also coached top clubs in Europe . His desire for the warriors job will also add to the pool of fine contenders who have registered their interests in the job .
Current Angolan side Recreativo Libobo head coach Portuguese national Vaz Pinto is also rumoured to have forwarded his CV in the hope of landing the top job.
Belgian national Jean Francois Losciuto, formerly of Black Leopards of South Africa has also thrown the towel for the top job .
Football Analysts and supporters who spoke to this reporter all conquered that Zimbabwe need an experienced gaffer .
Football analyst Leon Mutasa said ” Micho, is firm favourite to land the Warriors coaching job on the back of his vast experience in African football.”
Another Analysts Rashid Tomondo said ” the Warriors job will required someone with experience thus it wil help the national team “
