Zimbabwe drew 1-1 with Niger in their second international friendly at Stade Père-Jégo in Casablanca, Morocco, on Tuesday.
After a disappointing showing against Burkina Faso the previous Friday, the Warriors came out with renewed purpose. They set the tone early, with Tinotenda Kadewere creating the first real chance just two minutes into the game.
Zimbabwe dominated the opening exchanges and earned several set-pieces in Niger’s half. Their early pressure paid off in the 9th minute when Gerald Takwara pounced on a loose ball in the box and slotted home to put Zimbabwe ahead.
Niger gradually found their rhythm and began to hold more possession, though they struggled to break through a disciplined Zimbabwean defence. Their first real opportunity came in the 23rd minute when Issa Djibrilla’s low shot struck the post.
The pressure from Niger continued to mount. Around the 30-minute mark, Jonah Fabisch made a crucial interception in the box to preserve Zimbabwe’s lead. Just moments later, goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze mishandled a routine ball, but captain Teenage Hadebe was alert and cleared off the line to prevent an equaliser.
The Warriors managed to hold their 1-0 advantage going into the break, despite the late pressure.
The second half saw Brentford goalkeeper Marley Tavaziva introduced for his national team debut, replacing Chipezeze. However, his debut was marked by Niger’s equaliser in the 71st minute from the penalty spot.
Zimbabwe nearly reclaimed the lead seven minutes later when substitute Walter Musona’s powerful effort struck the crossbar.
The introduction of Khama Billiat and Terence Dzvukamanja in the 79th minute gave the Warriors a late boost in attack. They pushed for a winning goal, but the match ultimately ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
