Zimbabwe yesterday recorded a surge in Covid-19 deaths, after 91 people succumbed to the virus.
The figure is the country’s second highest of Covid-19 deaths after the 102 deaths that was recorded on 16 July 2021.
The new recorded deaths takes the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 2 961.
Meanwhile, a total of 2 265 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the past 24 hours taking the total of positive cases to 95 686.
The number of people who have since recovered stands at 62 986 and the current national recovery rate is 66%.
Furthermore, as the mass vaccination program continues, to date a total of 1 400 905 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
In the past 24 hours 48 391 received their first dose and 65 568 received their second dose.
Zimbabwe has in the past few weeks witnessed a spike in Covid-19 related deaths and new cases because of the third wave.
Health experts gave a stern warning to all citizens that unlike the first and second wave the third wave infections carries more dealier and highly transmissible variants.
The deadly Indian Delta variant which first hit the country in June is amongst these variants.
