The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has raised alarm over the circulation of fraudulent letters on social media, falsely claiming that the party has recalled specific councillors and members of Parliament.
This follows after Sengezo Tshabangu, a former member of MDC-T, had purportedly written letters to the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, and the Local Government Minister, Winston Chitando.
The letters, dated October 3, allege the recall of 15 opposition legislators and 17 councillors affiliated with the CCC.
In these letters, Tshabangu asserts that the legislators and councillors, who were elected under the CCC banner, have now ceased to be members of the party.
In a statement, the party’s spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi advised the public to disregard the letters and treat them with the contempt they deserve.
“It has come to the attention of the Citizens Coalition for Change that there are letters purportedly written by a person designating himself as interim secretary General circulating on social media claiming that the Citizens’ Movement has recalled named councillors and members of Parliament.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard these with the contempt they deserve,” Mwakanzi said.
According Mwakanzi, the party has not initiated any recall measures and has no intention of doing so against its recently elected representatives.
“The CCC party has neither recalled nor does it intend to recall any of its recently elected deployees,” he said.
The alleged author of these letters Tshabangu, is stated to have no affiliation with the CCC, either as a member or official, since the party’s inception. Tshabangu’s prior party affiliations are mentioned as MDCT and PDP.
“The purported author of the two letters, Sengezo Tshabangu is not and has never been a member or official of the CCC party since its inception. He’s last known parties are MDCT and PDP,” Mkwananzi said.
Mwakanzi also said Tshabangu is accused of engaging in deceitful tactics, including fielding fake CCC double candidates in Bulawayo and Matebeleland North.
“He is renowned for being the proxy of fielding fake CCC double candidates in Bulawayo and Matebeleland North,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mwakanzi indicated that the part’s deployees in local authorities and Parliament are expected to “continue to discharge their responsibilities as mandated by the electorate in the just ended elections.”
