A Karoi Magistrates’ Court has left tongues wagging after sentencing a man (20) to perform community service after he raped a grade seven pupil.
For committing the unremorseful act, the courts ordered him to perform 280 hours of community service.
The National Prosecuting Authorities of Zimbabwe (NPA) said that sometime in 2024 the offender proposed love to the grade seven pupil, and she agreed.
The duo are said to have had sexual intercourse multiple times.
This affair came to light when her guardian noted her absence in the dead of the night.
“She sneaked out of the house at around 2200 hours and went to the offender’s residence, where they engaged in sexual intercourse.
”
Upon returning home around 0100 hours, the victim was seen by her guardian, who enquired about her whereabouts, leading to disclosure of the case.
“A report was made leading to the offender’s arrest,” said NPA.
He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, of which four months were suspended for five years.
The remaining eight months were suspended on condition he performs community service
