A 26-year-old man from Magunje, Shingai Makura allegedly raped and stoned to death a six year old girl.
The suspect struck the victims head with a rock to conceal the sexual crime.
Police has since detailed Makura.
” On 28 October 2023, police in Magunje arrested Shingai Makura, 26, in connection with a case of murder in which a minor, 6, was found lying naked between two big rocks in a bushy area in Mavhondo Village, Chief Dandawa, Magunje.
“The suspect allegedly raped the victim before he hit her with a stone on the head in a bid to conceal the rape case.” reads a statement.
The police refrained from providing additional information regarding the crime.
Incidents of sexual assault against underage girls are widespread in the country, often involving adult suspects.
In May this year, a 57-year-old school teacher named Aleck Masomera from Harare was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the rape of his neighbor’s 11-year-old daughter, whom he had been tutoring.
Just last month, Dennis Mpondo, a 54-year-old overseer at a church called Faith in God Ministries in Harare, faced legal proceedings for allegedly showing his 10-year-old niece a pornographic video on his phone before committing sexual assault.
