In a development that can change the face of Zimbabwean football 8 young footballers from a local City Football Academy are set to go for trials in Europe at the Spanish Giant Barcelona and Greek’s Panathinaikos .
The boys emerged the best among a contingent promising young footballers at an annual thanksgiving tournament held in Zambia where scouts from both Barca and Panathinaikos were impressed by the youngsters.
The 8 are:
1. Nigel Vhera (14),
2. Kelvin Moses (13),
3. Tinashe Kativhu (12),
4. Kupakwashe Mazokera (11),
5. Tadiwanashe Mavhurure (12),
6. Blessing Chikwariro (14),
7. Lawrence Muromo (13)
8. Rishon Mazivire
Speaking to the media , City academy’s scout Agrippa Guti said:
” I think this is quite a big opportunity for these youngsters. Their attitude and level of professionalism was outstanding and as a result, they were picked by these teams. I’m sure this could be the beginning of big things in their careers. The boys will be leaving early next year either in February or March.
As City Football Academy we are really proud of these boys and we are confident they will go represent us and the country well. They are a group of young and talented footballers”.
Lack of junior football development has been sighted as the major impediment to the growths and development of football in the country .
A lot of junior development academies Has been sighting funding challenges as the major drawback for setting up proper football management in Zimbabwe.
