Following the notification to ZEC by a new political party calling itself ZANU PF Original, the ruling party appear to have been rattled by its namesake.
In a statement, ZANU PF secretary for information and publicity Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said the ruling party will remain vigilant in the face of threats from G40 malcontents.
“The enunciating and misleading media reports that there is a party calling itself “ZANU PF original” is an insult to the values and ethos of the liberation struggle which ushered in our independence in 1980.
“Our sovereignty did not come on a silver platter. Thousands perished and hundreds were maimed.
“The so-called Zimbabwe African National Unity PF original never existed and the announcement of its formation is a day dream of G40 malcontents, “he said.
Political analysts have however warned that the formation of a namesake party bearing the name of ZANU PF is in itself a threat to the liberation party.
Political analyst Mr Frank Chauke reiterated that the same sentiments. ”We are used to political formations that bear the names of opposition parties especially the MDC but now the shifting of poles is likely to confuse ruling party’ s electorate,” he said.
Professor Jonathan Moyo mocked ZANU PF on twitter saying,” Hahahaha. Hleka Moyo. Not uSK but mina. Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Zimbabwe is ok but Zanu PF Original is not ok. It’s a joke. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander!”
Social media has been abuzz with people expressing what they feel about ZANU PF original.
