ZANU PF Gokwe Sesame Member of Parliament, Gorden Chanda, Ward 13 and 6 councillors, Georgina Chirongoma have been arrested for allegedly extorting villagers and stealing food aid.
The pair facing criminal abuse of office charges were taken into police custody on Monday.
They appeared before magistrate, Short game Musaiwona.
The court heard that late last year, Chanda and Chirongoma collected over RTGS$7 000 from villagers claiming it was for the construction of a clinic but funds had already been availed by the Rural District Council.
In another incident, Chirongoma reportedly collected 3 200 bags of maize aid meant for villagers food relief from the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) but diverted 3 080 bags for her personal use leaving only 120 bags at the distribution site.
They were granted RTGS$1000 bail each.
Among his bail conditions, Chanda was asked to report to Gokwe police station twice a week, surrender his passport and continue residing at his home address.
