The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said it will start conducting investigations into the death of a pregnant minor, Memory Machaya at a Marange shrine.
The 14-year-old reportedly died in labour while receiving prayers at a Johanne Marange church shrine in Bocha, Mutare.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi Friday said police will conduct the investigation and more information will be revealed soon.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has taken note of print and social media reports and inquiries on the alleged death of Memory Machaya (14) at a church shrine in Marange recently.
“The ZRP is now conducting investigations into the case, more information will be released soon,” reads the statement.
Following her death, the church leaders allegedly denied family members including Machaya’s mother access to the burial.
The incident has attracted a public outcry and a viral petition for the church leaders to be brought to book.
