Internet’ went abuzz after Information Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana had posted what he termed ED’s distinguished performance .
The presidential spokesperson had posted that his boss has so far managed to have a budget deficit, trade deficit and the introduction of ZUPCOs among others.
Mangwana posted the following message on Twitter,
“ED’S DISTINGUISHED PERFORMANCE 1. Budget deficit down 90% 2. Trade deficit down 70% 3. De-dollarisation completed, new currency introduced & stabilized. 4. Ease of doing business – Zim is up 15 positions 5. Mass Public Transport System (More will be shared)”
Responding to Mangwana, social media users had this to say;
“De-dollarisation completed, new currency introduced & stabilized. Highest denomination (5 bond) cannot even buy a half loaf of bread – just an example,” said one William Zambezi.
“We could be talking more if it weren’t for the lax stance on corruption. i am heavily disappointed in that regard. You have done absolutely nothing,” said another user named Samanyanga.
“Trade deficit down coz people are not able to import much needed food, which translates to that people are starving. We are not producing enough for our consumption hence need for food imports so decline in trade deficit is a clear sign of starving nation,” another one Colonel Von Strohm.
“If those are the indicators of a DISTINGUISHED performance then the bar is very very low,”. The post came at a time when Emmerson Mnangagwa has taken his annual leave for the first time eversince assuming the office of the president in November 2017.
