A former Marondera Officer-In-Charge, Elvis Chizengeni, who holds the rank of an Assistant Inspector, is alleged to have teamed up with armed robbers after supplying them with firearms from his police station.
Chizengeni (37) recently appeared at the High Court before Justice Moses Foroma and was released on $500 bail.
It is the State’s case that on April 6, 2019 Chizengeni teamed up with his gang, most of whom are still at large, and offered a lift to some commuters who intended to travel to Chitungwiza from Machipisa in Highfield at 2100 hours.
It is alleged that when they got to Irvine’s, one of the suspects produced a firearm while the others produced knives and ordered all the passengers to surrender their belongings. After robbing them, they proceeded to dump them in a maize field and disappeared from the scene.
An unfortunate Chizengeni was identified by one of the victims who knew him as a police officer.
