FORMER Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members of parliament for Mabvuku Tafara James Chidhakwa was abducted, tortured and injected with an unknown substance before being dumped midnight in Arcturus, the party has said.
The CCC party suspects state agents.
“Chidhakwa was abducted, tortured, injected with an unknown substance, and subsequently dumped in Acturus at midnight by suspected state agents,” said CCC in a statement.
Chidhakwa has since been hospitalized.
The CCC also condemned the use of violence and attacks on its members.
“His dreadlocks were shaved off using a sharp object. He is currently at a local hospital. The regime in Harare continues to unleash violence and launch attacks against our members. This behaviour must stop.
“The regime in Harare is aware that it did not win the recently concluded flawed, sham, disorganised, and shambolic elections.
“That is why it is behaving like a terrorist organisation, abducting and torturing our innocent members. We condemn this behaviour in the strongest terms.”
Over the past two years, human rights organizations have recorded numerous instances of abductions in Zimbabwe. They assert that state security agents employ this strategy to disrupt the activities of the primary opposition party and labor unionists.
The government consistently rejects these allegations, counter-accusing activists of orchestrating the abductions.
